The ABnrz coaches are part of the former 5000 vehicle local transportation fleet of Deutsche Bahn.
Of the previously approx. 1200 n-type coaches of first and second class (ABn, ABnr, ABnrz), some 400 coaches are equipped with battery chargers and disc brakes.
ABnrz coaches typically have 30 first class seats, 48 second class seats, and 2 folding seats.
There are several different versions of the vehicle in the first class area:
Common to all vehicle versions is that the first class seating area is separated from the aisle by glass compartment doors to shield against draughts and noise.
ABnrz coaches can be operated together with diesel locomotives, such as the BR218, or with electric locomotives.
