WEG arranges for short-term leasing of two Regio-Shuttles RS1s

19.05.2025 // WEG Württembergische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft (Württemberg Railway Company) arranges for short-term leasing of two Regio-Shuttles RS1s from HEROS

WEG Württembergische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft (Württemberg Railway Company) is leasing two air-conditioned Series 1 Regio-Shuttle RS1s from HEROS Rail Rent on a short-term basis to bridge an unplanned need for vehicles.

Together with the Series 4 Regio-Shuttle RS1s sold by HEROS Helvetic Rolling Stock to ZVVW Zweckverband Verkehrsverband Wieslauftalbahn (Wieslauftalbahn Special Purpose Traffic Association), the two additional vehicles will make it possible to gradually resume passenger services between Schorndorf and Rudersberg.

The two leased vehicles will be available for up to 12 months and can be returned to HEROS by WEG earlier depending on the actual need. During the leasing period, material service support is provided by the rental company, which will supply all specific spare parts for the leased vehicles.

The two leased vehicles have automatic centre couplers and otherwise feature a technical design that is similar to the Regio-Shuttle RS1 previously used by the Wieslauftalbahn Railway. HEROS will support WEG with technical information about the vehicle and carry out maintenance before and during the leasing period. The vehicles will serve as a stopgap solution – able to be deployed at short notice – and represent an ideal additional operational resource.

HEROS Rail Rent is currently leasing out six Regio-Shuttle RS1s to various operators in Germany and will be leasing out other diesel multiple units on a long-term basis in the coming months.

To date, the HEROS Group has acquired more than 60 Regio-Shuttle RS1s, which have been sold or leased out after undergoing the necessary main inspections and various modifications. It will continue procuring even more diesel multiple units in the coming months.
