City-Bahn Chemnitz leases two Regio-Shuttle RS1 multiple units from HEROS at short notice
16.02.2026 // City-Bahn Chemnitz leases two Regio-Shuttle RS1 multiple units from HEROS at short notice
To secure service stability, City-Bahn Chemnitz is leasing two air-conditioned Regio-Shuttle RS1 multiple units of series 1 from HEROS Rail Rent at short notice to bridge an unplanned need for vehicles.
The two vehicles will initially be leased out until July 2026 and are to be replaced by one or more series 2 or 3 Regio-Shuttle RS1 multiple units according to further needs.
HEROS will support City-Bahn Chemnitz with lease vehicles for a maximum of 12 to 14 months with the option of returning the vehicles to HEROS before the period elapses if they are no longer required. During the lease period, the provider will supply material service support with all specific spare parts for the leased vehicles.
The two leased vehicles have automatic centre couplers and are otherwise similar in terms of technical design to the Regio-Shuttle RS1 multiple units previously used by City-Bahn. The vehicles will serve as a stopgap solution – able to be deployed at short notice – and represent an ideal additional operational resource.
Leasing of bridging vehicles at short notice has been an important part of the HEROS Rail Rent business model for years and has been successfully practised for years, especially in connection with the sales and conversion projects of the parent company, HEROS Helvetic Rolling Stock.
HEROS Rail Rent currently leases Regio-Shuttle RS1 multiple units to five different operators in Germany and is in concrete negotiations with other operators for leasing of corresponding vehicles at short notice.
To accommodate the requirements of the various operators, the lease periods range from several months to several years.
To date, the HEROS Group has acquired more than 60 Regio-Shuttle RS1s, which have been sold or leased out after undergoing the necessary main inspections and various modifications. It will continue procuring even more diesel multiple units in the coming months.
