Railcar RegioShuttle RS1, series 1, regional transport
The RegioShuttle RS1 are modern, single-unit diesel railcars for public transport by rail, which is generally operated on non-electrified branch lines. The RS1 have a complete drive system on each of their two bogies. The two 257 kW diesel engines allow acceleration of 1.2 m/s² in the range of 0 to 50 km/h, which means the railcar can start and accelerate even on track sections with a gradient of up to 40°/oo. Depending on the design, the RS1 can be used in multiple heading of up to three or five units per train. In multiple heading, the mechanical coupling of the RS1 is carried out using the external buffer, coupling hook and screw coupling. The multiple heading capability makes it possible to flexibly adjust the number of seats per train and also to use individual vehicles as additional units.
In addition to the low-floor access at approx. 580 mm above the top of the rail, about 65% of the passenger compartment of the RegioShuttle RS1 is low-floor area. For entry to the vehicles, every door is fitted with retractable steps to bridge the gap between the train and platform. In the low-floor area, in addition to the access doors, one or two multi-purpose areas with different amenities (toilet system, flip-up seats, bicycle rack etc.) are possible, depending on the vehicle design. This determines the seating and standing capacity of the vehicle. A state-of-the-art passenger information system – inside and outside as well as visual and acoustic – keeps the passenger informed about their individual position at all times. Different configurations of the interior fittings can be tailored to the customer’s requirements.
